Notice of end of process for making and determining victims’ claims

Below is a list of offenders who have been awarded compensation and the funds have now been paid out.

Notices will be removed after a period of 1 month.

Jason George Gregory

Pursuant to subpart 2 of Part 2 of the Prisoners’ and Victims’ Claims Act 2005 (the Act), compensation awarded to Jason George Gregory was paid to the Secretary for Justice and after making any deductions, the surplus remaining was paid into the Victims’ Claims Trust Account on 9 November 2020 on behalf of Jason George Gregory to enable any victims of that offender to make claims against it.

From 20 November 2020, notice was given by publication in the New Zealand Gazette, on 20 November 2020 the website of the Ministry of Justice and on 21 November 2020 in the daily newspapers in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin of the sum of money paid into the Trust Account, and the entitlement of victims of the offender to claim against this money and the manner to do so.

The Secretary for Justice has now paid out all or the last of the money held in the Trust Account on behalf of Jason George Gregory in accordance with Subpart 2 of Part 2 of the Act.

Pursuant to subpart 2 of Part 2 of the Prisoners’ and Victims’ Claims Act 2005 (the Act), compensation awarded to Gary Ratima Karangaroa was paid to the Secretary for Justice and after making any deductions, the surplus remaining was paid into the Victims’ Claims Trust Account on 29 September 2020 on behalf of Gary Ratima Karangaroa to enable any victims of that offender to make claims against it.

From 9 October 2020, notice was given by publication in the New Zealand Gazette, on 9 October 2020 the website of the Ministry of Justice and on 10 October 2020 in the daily newspapers in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin of the sum of money paid into the Trust Account, and the entitlement of victims of the offender to claim against this money and the manner to do so.

The Secretary for Justice has now paid out all or the last of the money held in the Trust Account on behalf of Gary Ratima Karangaroa in accordance with Subpart 2 of Part 2 of the Act.

The Secretary for Justice has now paid out all or the last of the money held in the Trust Account on behalf of Tryton Poara Maslyn-Smith in accordance with Subpart 2 of Part 2 of the Act.

From 26 March 2021 notice was given by publication in the New Zealand Gazette, on 26 March 2021 website of the Ministry of Justice and on 27 March 2021 in the daily newspapers in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin of the sum of money paid into the Trust Account, and the entitlement of victims of the offender to claim against this money and the manner to do so.

The Secretary for Justice has now paid out all or the last of the money held in the Trust Account on behalf of Michael Edward McArdle in accordance with Subpart 2 of Part 2 of the Act.

From 4 September 2020, notice was given by publication in the New Zealand Gazette, on the website of the Ministry of Justice and on 5 September 2020 in the daily newspapers in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin of the sum of money paid into the Trust Account, and the entitlement of victims of the offender to claim against this money and the manner to do so.

Under sections 48(3) and 52(1) of the Act, the Secretary for Justice has now paid out all or the last of the money held in the Trust Account on behalf of Raymond Murray.

From 6 March 2020, notice was given by publication in the New Zealand Gazette, on the website of the Ministry of Justice and on 7 March 2020 in the daily newspapers in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin of the sum of money paid into the Trust Account, and the entitlement of victims of the offender to claim against this money and the manner to do so.

Under sections 48(3) and 52(1) of the Act, the Secretary for Justice has now paid out all or the last of the money held in the Trust Account on behalf of Richard Dallas Tuhoro.
